On the Road to Even Skin Tone #Makari #CBias

by Notorious Spinks on 08.03.2012

As I approach the mid-way mark to 40,  I’m very particular about my skin care products especially my facial products.  My routine consists of a daily wash and moisturizer.  In addition, I rub left over extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) residue my face.

One of the things that people always compliment me on is my skin and I’m always like, “Really!”  I have to admit that I’ve very self-conscious about my facial skin tone because I have blemishes here and there.  The most noticeable issue is the dark spots that I have on both of my jaws.  My doctor informed me that many people with this blemish usually have diabetes but I don’t so I’m stumped.  Also that area of my face tends to get dry if I don’t moisturize regularly.

I have to admit that I’ve been very lazy about my daily facial regime.  In the past I would use a mask biweekly to help keep my skin very smooth, especially the dark patches on my jaws.  However, this does not work for lightening the skin tone or creating an even skin tone. When asked to review the Skin Repairing Clarifying Serum I was excited because Makari’s website states that the serum helps repair and remove  unwanted pigmentation.  If it really works then I will forever sing their praises because I’ve tried all kinds of skin brightening products to no avail.  In addition to the serum, I also received Clarifying Exfoliating Antiseptic Soap and Body Beautifying Milk.

Makari Skin Care Line

I have not used a bar of soap in a long while but I did appreciate that this soap is light on my skin.  The lather is a just right consistency that isn’t too heavy or sudsy and I was able to lather it on easily with my hands.   However, the only thing that really stuck out with me was the strong fragrance.  I have allergies and the strong scent made me sneeze a few times.

After rinsing the soap from my face with warm water I applied the serum.  Instead of putting it on my entire face, I only put it on my dark blemishes and on my jaws.  I used my regular moisturizer along with.  Because the serum is not sticky or greasy it went on well after my moisturizer.  I love that they were able to compliment each other.

Another thing I enjoyed is that my routine only takes about five to seven minutes.  It didn’t slow my day down and I appreciate that.

After completing my facial regimen I tried out the Body Beautifying Milk.  I must admit that I was skeptical because I can’t remember the last time I used lotion on my skin.  The EVOO and I have rolled steady for quite a while but I tried it…. To my surprise I liked it.  The lotion is very light weight and it gave me my regular shine without a greasy texture to accompany it.  Also it felt good to dabble in some smell goods after so long.

Overall I enjoyed using these products however I haven’t had an opportunity to use the soap and serum long enough to notice change.  I intend to keep this regimen up for about a month and then I will return with another set of before and after pictures to show how it worked on my jaws.  I know it probably won’t lighten them up entirely but I’m looking forward to some visible traces of skin brightening.

So — how is it working now … still using it?

Kelly August 19, 2012 at 1:36 pm

I am so lazy with my skin care, like seriously, I was my face once a week. I’m getting older so I really need to try to stick to some sort of routine and these products look lovely.

Emily @FamilyNLifeLV August 19, 2012 at 12:29 am

Sounds like a wonderful product! I have never heard of evoo residue…

Anitra August 15, 2012 at 10:08 pm

Great stuff. I love that it’s a quick routine too.

Anne August 12, 2012 at 8:58 pm

Sounds great, I must admit I am pretty lazy about a facial routine, I should probably do more!

Monique (@MamaRvThereYet) August 9, 2012 at 10:24 pm

I like my skin care routine to be fast too. If it slows me down, it’s gotta go cause I’m always rushing. I look forward to your update. You do have really smooth skin. I have moles and acne. Ugh!

Crystal August 9, 2012 at 11:42 am

This was a great review! I do nothing at all to the skin on my face, aside from get it wet in the shower. Now that I’m getting older, I’m probably going to have to start looking for some good products that work.

Love that you are loving the product! I know my skin in need of alternative methods because what I have is not working. Thanks for the review!

Amanda August 8, 2012 at 3:57 pm

I need to start using moisturizer more…especially with the fall and winter coming up!

Donna August 8, 2012 at 2:29 pm

I really need to use moisturizers more than I do. This sounds perfect, too. I hate greasy or heavy lotions.

Rachel August 8, 2012 at 2:21 pm

I can’t wait to hear how it does for you.

Jenn @therebelchick August 8, 2012 at 2:20 pm

I love hearing that something is light weight and non-greasy. That is my main issue with most lotions! I hope this helps you! :)

It sounds like you’re certainly on the right track with the new regime! I’m excited to see the results after a few weeks since I seem to be on an endless search for my favorite skin care line as well.

HilLesha August 8, 2012 at 1:30 pm

Fantastic review! I love using serums, too. I highly recommend Jurlique and Duchess Marden products, as well. :)

Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell August 8, 2012 at 9:38 am

Your initial impression sounds really positive. I hope it continues and that you will begin to see great results!

I love serums, they always make my skin feel “alive”

Colleen August 5, 2012 at 8:36 pm

I wish I knew as a teenager how important it is to take care of your skin. It would look a little better now at my age if I had.

Rachel @ Following In My Shoes August 7, 2012 at 7:20 am

Ugh — same here!

Looking forward to reading your long term results.

A Time Out for Mommy- Elaina August 5, 2012 at 8:20 pm

Crystal @ Simply Being Mommy August 5, 2012 at 5:33 pm

As I get older I’m noticing a couple of dark spots that I’d like to even out. Thanks for telling us about this skincare brand.

Stefanie August 5, 2012 at 11:35 am

I need something to even out my skintone.

Jennifer August 5, 2012 at 10:04 am

I am bad at taking care of my skin too. This stuff sounds pretty good though so I may look into it

Kiersten @ Oh My Veggies August 5, 2012 at 9:54 am

I’m in my 30s and I still have breakouts, so I get those dark spots of hyperpigmentation too. I’ll have to look into this brand! I’ve seriously tried everything I think. ;(

Tammy August 5, 2012 at 7:39 am

I need to start taking better care of my skin.

Stefani August 5, 2012 at 1:15 am

Great review!

Kathy August 4, 2012 at 8:49 pm

I can’t wait to read your update, I hope you notice a change!

Kathleen August 4, 2012 at 5:12 pm

I could definitely use this. I have a lot of redness in my face.

Dee @ Cocktails with Mom August 4, 2012 at 4:55 pm

I am prone to getting dark spots after being bitten by mosquitos and insects. This summer has been really bad. My arms and legs are full of them. The only thing I’ve ever tried was cocoa butter. Can’t wait to see your results .

Jenn August 4, 2012 at 2:53 pm

5-7 minutes I can handle. Thanks for the review! Looking forward to seeing your results.

Billie August 4, 2012 at 1:38 pm

I love that the whole routine doesn’t take too long and isn’t complicated. The more steps, the more likely I am not to do it.

Ty @ Mama of 3 Munchkins August 4, 2012 at 10:45 am

I can’t wait to see the results! Good luck!

Notorious Spinks August 4, 2012 at 1:14 pm

Thanks Ty~

Zipporah Sandler August 4, 2012 at 7:00 am

I find that for most products it takes 3-6 months to see a difference if at all. I want a MIRACLE.

Notorious Spinks August 4, 2012 at 1:13 pm

LOL! Your comment made me laugh. I’d love a miracle on that dark spot myself.

Zipporah Sandler August 4, 2012 at 1:22 pm

I had a spot on my face that the plastic surgeon was able to laser off for me. That’s the only “miracle” I’ve had.

Derek Williams August 4, 2012 at 2:58 am

I am happy to hear of this new product. I also struggle day to day with the same issue of pigmentation however, my problem is on the jaw line. I will follow your review updates and will purchase the product once I see noticeable results. I have also used several products in the passed and like you Spinks I’m very protective in skincare especially the facial area.
