As part of my partnership with GE, I received coupons for my GE light bulbs. All opinions posted about my GE Lighting experience are my own.
If children really are our future then we must do all we can to support them and keep them safe. When the opportunity to help those who help our children presented itself, I was all in.
This month is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and oftentimes with Breast Cancer Awareness going on in the same month, it is overlooked by many. For that reason, I decided to donate energy efficient light bulbs to a battered family shelter. You can read more about the first phase of my service project here.
Domestic violence is not good for anyone, but kids are especially affected. Oftentimes, women have to pack up their children with nothing but the clothes on their back and leave. Again, I know this is especially hard on children to leave behind everything that is normal for them.
So in efforts to do my part, I contacted a friend of mine who is a police officer. He put me in contact with the director and we made arrangements for my GE lighting donation. Although, I had done donation work with them in the past I didn’t just want to show up on the door step.
What better way to help the shelter than by taking replacement light bulbs? They are always looking for ways to save money so I shared with the director the GE Energy Savings Calculator so she could estimate how much they could save yearly using cfl light bulbs.
I also shared with her the various ways they can save with rebates. One way is with government rebates programs such as Energy Star and state run programs like DSIRE. You can also look for displays and signage in stores showing offers available, I tend to always see the ones for GE. Lastly, check with your utility service with any programs they may have.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take photos or reveal the location of the safe house. However, I do intend to work with them more to get donations and other things for them.
Help Champions for Kids and GE mobilize 20 million people by 2020 while improving the lives of children across America and beyond.
If we all do just a little bit then we can help reach 20 million people or more. We’d love to see your SIMPLE Service Projects so feel free to share them with me, Champion for Kids and GE.
